#15: 1965 Type II Neunsitzer (2000-present)

After returning from the Jerome Jamboree in September '00, I was waxing poetic about the trip and my grand experience driving Jim Ellis's 63 EZ-Camper from Phoenix through the desert. Tallahassee Vintage VWs member Tony Zampino overheard me and said, "You know, this guy I work with has a splitty bus for sale...."

I named her Helene, after the tropical storm that soaked Tallahassee the weekend I bought her. Click any before or after thumbnail for a fullsize view.

Shoestring rolling "restoration" includes garage-sale stereo, urethaned doorskin panels, close-enough fabric store match on rear seat and interior window surrounds, and a semi-scratchbuilt folding rear bed. Paint is Rustoleum and Home Depot tractor paint applied with rattle-can, brush, and roller. The popouts were rusty and I had 6 jalousie windows, et voila.
